Some kid in Noah's classroom has LICE. Oh. My. God. I started feeling itchy just reading the treatment handout that was in each cubby. I'm itchy right now writing the word LICE. I'm going to be itchy until I determine that my child does NOT have LICE.
When we got home from school, I immediately grabbed a comb to check his hair. The comb I grabbed was the dog's flea comb. Hey, don't judge, I washed it in very hot water with anti-bacterial soap before it touched Noah's head. It's the most fine tooth comb I own and its sole purpose is digging out BUGS. So far, so good. We will be repeating this comb, search, scream (child, not me) process every day until I am convinced we've escaped a lice infestation.
I know this is a rite of passage when you put your kid in a room with 15 other children but the germs and general ick are starting to wear me down. They just pass the sick back and forth, back and forth. Upside? He's going to have a stellar immune system by kindergarten. My vacation days at work will actually be used for vacation. How novel!
Fingers crossed we don't get LICE. Hope you're not itchy.

I'm itching for you. I am not looking forward to this rite of passage. Here's to hoping the lice fairy passes without stopping at your house.
I was just talking about this to a co-worker today after her daycare called to say her son was sick again and she needed to pick him up. We were saying we feel like we can never make any weekend plans because our kids almost always end up catching something from daycare EVERY WEEK and spent all weekend sick. Obviously its not actually *every* week, but it certainly feels like it sometimes.
I grew up in a far more ethnically diverse neighborhood than the one we live in now. And, uhhh, I hate to admit it, but I got lice quite a few times as a kid. I remember the special shampoo, the special combs and my poor mother sitting both my brother and me in the bathtub to get to work. I like to think I still turned out fine - and I'm pretty sure both you and Noah will, too. =) Hang in there.
It does have that heebie jeebie feel but even if you do get a few, it's very treatable and no big deal. We won't judge - I'm sure it will be me with the comb soon enough.
EEEK. Totally itchy. Here's hoping it passes your house! EEEK.
My brother and I totally got lice when we were younger. My aunt and uncle had just adopted triplets from an orphanage in Honduras and we went to visit the new family in TN shortly after they brought the triplets home. We then brought the lice home to MI with us.
I remember my mom crying as she combed through our hair and washed every SINGLE surface our heads had been on.
Of all things in the circuit at daycare, lice hadn't even crossed my mind. Thanks, Sara. : )
I'm going to also go ahead and cross my fingers that you don't get PINKEYE, because that's what we're dealing with at Casa Draitser these days. NOT FUN, let me tell you.
